Trudy Rodkin Tobias’ professional education includes a master’s in social work from Loyola University in Chicago, and certification as a Rapid Results Coach by Christian Mickelson's Success Coaching Academy® and certification as a Radical Forgiveness® Practitioner by Colin Tipping. Trudy has received additional training in other coaching modalities, including Dream Building® and Life Mastery® by Mary Morrissey, and Positive Intelligence® by Shirzad Charmin.
Professionally Trudy has over forty years’ experience as a licensed clinical social worker in a variety of settings. She opened her private counseling practice in 2017 and continues her rewarding work as a mental health therapist. However, wanting to have a broader reach than just her one-to-one counseling practice, Trudy authored a book, Reinventing Yourself at Any Age, and founded her Truest Coaching business, designed to help women conquer challenging life changes in 2018. Having experienced a lot of life changes later in life, including: losing an infant at age 38, becoming a mom through adoption at age 40, moving to the Southeast from the Midwest at age 57, leaving a long-term marriage in her early 60’s, and changing career directions to a self-empowerment coach and author in her late 60's, Trudy knows personally that it is not only possible to Reinvent Yourself at Any Age, but also how to grow and thrive in the process!
Her epiphany that the key to her own transformation was learning how to set boundaries and have the courage to end her habitual people pleasing, something which had sabotaged her personally and professionally throughout her life, caused Trudy to pivot her coaching business to helping other women learn how to craft a celebratory next chapter by saying “No” to others and “Yes” to themselves. Through practicing the methods of Positive Intelligence, Trudy was able to make lasting changes and take positive actions to create a life she loves.
Personally, Trudy grew up and spent most of her adult life in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Although she met a lot of family resistance, rather than succumb to her old “People Pleasing” habits, Trudy listened to her soul and at the age of 57 moved to Greensboro, NC, in 2006. She now lives happily with her loving Labrador/Border Collie mix, Odin, and her character of a cat, Binx, in a house full of bright colors that everyone who enters says is a “Trudy-house.”
Trudy is the proud grandmother of four grandsons, although she believes she is much too young to be that old! She says she now fully understands the plaque that used to hang in her mother’s den, “If I had known being a grandmother was so much fun, I would have done it first!” Trudy loves to get to California to visit her daughter and family there, as well as visit her family of origin in Chicago as much as possible.
